Perfect 5-Star Review from M. Wayne Cunningham, ForeWord CLARION Reviews:
"If there is ever to be a poster person for people with ultra-abilities, it would have to be twenty-four-year-old Shirley Cheng. The author has turned her disabilities into an ultra-ability and written the awe-inspiring Embrace Ultra-Ability! Cheng's slim but power-packed motivational guide delivers what it promises with its wisdom, insights, and motivation. It is a volume to be read, re-read, and treasured for its originality, readability, and courageous approach to dealing with life's adversities, and from an individual who has had far more than her fair share of them.

"Cheng is a first-class role model for taking the cards one is dealt in life and turning them into a winning hand.

"With typical humility she refers to her volume as only a basic guidebook. But it is a guidebook full of sage advice, helpful exercises, common sense analyses, and tough love prescriptions..."

"Motivational speaker and poet Cheng offers a heartfelt guide to building the foundations for a good life.

"Writing with verve and conviction, and ever cutting to the chase, she covers the ingredients of the foundation...

"Cheng could easily have become sad and bad, but good and happy is her path. These lifeways were her ticket to the high road." —Kirkus Discoveries

"...very effective and empowering in teaching positive affirmations, self-confidence, self-love and true sight," said Dorothy Lafrinere, WomensSelfEsteem.com

"Shirley Cheng's vibrant prose refreshes the soul. Her positive message of hope and love has universal appeal," wrote The Rebecca Review, Top Ten Amazon.com Reviewer

"'This small book is simply a tender nudge,' writes Shirley Cheng in the opening chapter of this joyful volume that combines the basics of faith and positive thinking into a gentle guide that's well-illustrated by the author's experience," wrote Malcolm R. Campbell, author of The Sun Singer. "Rather than breaking new ground in the realm of empowerment and spirituality, Cheng serves as the wise and patient coach who has traveled that new road before and knows the territory. She enthusiastically urges us forward, step by positive step, toward becoming 'Ultra-Abled.'"

"There are a lot of self-help and self-improvement books out there...Shirley Cheng's Embrace Ultra-Ability! Wisdom, Insight & Motivation from the Blind Who Sees Far and Wide is indeed another self-help and self-improvement book...but what makes it stand out from the rest is its author's faith, own disabilities, and writing style.

"Readers will be treated to practical self-improvement advice without being treated like sinners. Readers will be able to understand Cheng's message thanks to her clear and simple writing peppered with colorful, non-cliched metaphor. No psychiatric jargon will plague them," commented H.A. Senidal, writer.

“A timeless and ageless fountain of hope that can be read over and over,” said Robbie Miles, Brush Artist and Teacher

"Find zeal for life's quests and embrace your ultra-abilities. As you open your mind, you'll be challenged to be the best you can be, and reminded of life's enchantments. Recommended for anyone who needs a lift to the brighter side of life," wrote Christina Francine

"I love the vision of Shangri-la in Shirley Cheng's book. I was enchanted by the descriptions of intriguing settings throughout, and I like how some of the rich details get wrapped around the dramatic moments. Each has a compelling lesson to which readers are drawn. It gives a good overall message - the power of a daring heart, magic and goodness defeating evil," commented Lin Fong-O'Neill, author of Mommy,Why? a book teaching children the beauty of diversity.

"Daring Quests of Mystics by Shirley Cheng is a fun adventurous read for all ages. This is a fascinating book of short stories, each with a moral. I would recommend this book for all ages, I have passed it on to my teenage son to read, because the fun, magical story is also teaching while entertaining. Something that is hard to find. I look forward to the next book by this author," wrote writer, publisher, consultant Michelle Dunn.

"Daring Quests of Mystics is a charming collection of short stories that is filled with quaint, old-world imagery and poetic visualization. Author Shirley Cheng has captured the hearts of youngsters who still beg for the fairy tale filled with Princesses, Kings and imminent danger.

*Spotlight Reviews*

"Shirley Cheng has an inspiring story to tell in The Revelation of a Star's Endless Shine. How can we not be in awe of her? She suffered through the pain and disability of severe juvenile rheumatoid arthritis and subsequent blindness. She suffered through a senseless custody fight at the hands of meddling social services personnel. She suffered through inconsistent medical care. She remained fearless and positive through it all, going on to maintain a 3.9 grade point average in high school; unable to complete all of her high school courses, she subsequently passed her GED test with an exceptionally high score. Shirley and her tirelessly compassionate mother Juliet Cheng have been miracle workers, and one cannot help but think that has been their calling," wrote Malcolm R. Campbell, Campbell Editorial Services

"Why is it possible in America, the land of the free, that a parent cannot disagree with a doctor’s recommendation for treatment? If they do, their child could be taken from them. Social Services can be called in. How could it also be possible for a hospital to take parents to court for intercepting unwanted treatment? Well, in this great nation supposedly run by the people for the people, parental rights aren’t what they used to be. We all know people who neglect or abuse their children and intervention is necessary for them. This is not the same. Shirley Cheng’s autobiography is about this injustice, about how she, a blind and physically disabled young woman with severe juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, and her mother were treated," wrote Christina Francine for Reviewer's Bookwatch on Midwest Book Review. "A disturbing, and enlightening read. Authentic, honest, and profound. Will change reader’s outlook."

"Shirley Cheng's inspirational book, The Revelation of a Star's Endless Shine, offers hope and motivation to overcome challenges. After reading this stellar expose of the daily sufferings of a young innocent child who was championed by the unconditional love of her mother, you will understand unequivocally that life is not what happens to you, it is how you respond to it. A brilliant treatise to triumphing over turmoil. Buy it and be revitalized," wrote Cynthia Brian, radio/TV personality and NY Times best selling co-author of Chicken Soup for the Gardener's Soul.

"This is the story of a mother's dedication and commitment to her child, and it is most of all the story of a strong, brave and determined young woman to live her life to the fullest, even with all its limitations. Cheng dreams big dreams and has the tenacity to make them come true.

This heartwarming story is one you'll want to read," wrote Andrea Sisco, Armchair Interviews

"Shirley learned the hard way how indifferent some people could be when it came to the suffering of others. That did not deter her from reaching for the stars. Every day, no matter how she felt, she would try to smile. With her there was no such word as "quit."

Each time Shirley's mother had to take her to the hospital for some kind of treatment, she would always find a way to bounce back and be ready to go on with her life. Shirley showed great fortitude when it came to pain. Even though she had to fight an uphill battle for twenty years, her attitude was to try to see the good in others and never try to judge anyone in anything said or done.

This book will capture the heart of the reader and move you to tears as you travel down life's road with Shirley Cheng, a young author with a passion for life. Truly a star with endless shine. Well done, Shirley," remarked Wanda Maynard from Sime~Gen - Reviews

"Wow! What a story! Shirley Cheng is most definitely someone who sees the glass of water as being half full, rather than even partially empty. She is living proof that someone can be happy, live a fulfilling life that matters to many others, in spite of severe physical pain, being legally blind and living life out of a wheelchair.

In the midst of pain and not knowing what medical calamity would next happen to her, Shirley has devoted her life to making the most of what she has. Her extraordinary intelligence (being at the very top of her class) is topped only by her determination to succeed and not to allow the constant unwanted companion of pain, the harshness of blindness and the inconvenience of confinement to a wheelchair determine the course of her life.

Shirley has used this book to remind us to count our blessings!

The Revelation of a Star's Endless Shine truly lives up to its title," wrote reviewer Rebecca Henderson, AllBooks Reviews

"Cheng's graceful storytelling and poetry not only is a pleasure, but awe-inspiring, as her wisdom and understanding at such a young age is profound. Her resounding words are of encouragement and of good. She believes happiness begins in the heart and that readers should allow themselves the freedom to dance with their heart. A luminous read," wrote Christina Francine for Reviewer's Bookwatch on Midwest Book Review

"Reading Dance with Your Heart is a soul cleansing experience and explores the dreams, imaginings and longings of a beautiful soul," wrote Rebecca Johnson, The Rebecca Review, Amazon's Top Five Reviewer.

"It's impossible not to feel inspired and moved when reading DANCE WITH YOUR HEART - a collection of tales and poems by a young author by the name of Shirley Cheng. To say that this young woman has overcome adversity is a staggering understatement," wrote reviewer Tara Rogan, Round Table Reviews. "Most of the tales are simple on the outside, but evoke a moral that is cleverly woven to make readers smile after each one. 'The Greedy Cat' is a distinctive story that reads like a fable, yet contains a message at the end that is both crafty and clever.

Each of these anecdotes imitates life and are exceedingly fun to read. The poems are also heartfelt, and many of them echo Cheng's life as well as the tribulations she has faced to get where she is now. All of these pieces have a positive spin, which is where we really see where Cheng's greatest strength truly comes from-- her attitude."

"Excellent choice for the home pleasure library, the home school curriculum as well as the public school classroom," commented reviewer and author Molly Martin, The Compulsive Reader.

Cover of Waking Spirit: Prose & Poems the Spirit Sings by Shirley Cheng, an inspirational book exploring a world of dancing hearts, singing spirits, with infinite love from life; motivational, personal growth, haiku

Waking Spirit

Prose & Poems the Spirit Sings

Foreword by New York Times bestselling author, Cynthia Brian

*NEWLY RELEASED!*

3-Time Award Winner

O, spread thy wings and fly to wondrous places! The winds shall take thee to undiscovered spaces where hearts dance to songs of delight sung by the spirits of life.

Spirit, rise! You are about to fly to a world of dancing hearts, singing spirits, with infinite love from life, in the treasure trove of Waking Spirit. Swing to the melodies as the essence of the prose and poetry, including 102 beautifully written haiku of nature wonders and delightful animals, awakens your soul. The inspirational quotes in A Moment with Shirley, and autobiographical tales, such as I'm Not Disabled--I'm Ultra-Abled, shine with the author's invincible spirit and precocious wisdom, empowering you to take flight.

Many songs have been left unsung, their tales all untold. The melodies were never formed, with words all but spoken. Do not let the same misfortune befall your spirit. Sing your song while it is young. Let your melodies travel far and wide, and when you do, prepare to embrace the sky.

"Waking Spirit celebrates life while encouraging us all to appreciate what we already have. It's a book of survival, a tome of devotion, a bible of being," wrote New York Times bestselling author, Cynthia Brian, in the foreword. "Serve yourself a big helping of Shirley Cheng's inspiration and you'll be motivated to shoot for the stars."

"An inspirational miscellany from one of the braver souls on the planet. The author of a number of works in genres ranging from memoir to short fiction to poetry, this motivational speaker is seldom at a loss for words to celebrate life and promote her indefatigable character. Here, Cheng collects a menagerie of lyrics, haiku, short personal essays and even briefer aphoristic words to live by--all on the theme of leaping over seemingly insurmountable hurdles, a subject with which this author is well-acquainted. Though plagued from infancy with near-fatal juvenile rheumatoid arthritis and then blindness as a teenager, Cheng continues to tackle on the page all life has to offer, enlisting but her two index fingers, the aid of a screen-reader program that reads back what she's composed and her indomitable will...

"Cheng's prose statements detail a few of her tribulations, offering philosophical insights on suffering, though never with a hint of self-pity; her poems, particularly the vivid haiku, turn more to objects of the natural world that delight her... The combination makes for an easily digestible volume of special interest to the afflicted.

"For those ready to be eased of their burdens, Cheng provides a lift." --Kirkus Discoveries

"This book is an amazing read by an amazing person. While shops and shelves are piled with inspirational and self-help books written by people with disabilities, only luck can lead the reader to an author capable of transporting them to a world outside the normal and understood. Shirley Cheng is one of these lucky finds, driven as she is to help others understand the lives of the disabled.

"...Cheng is one person who has never allowed her differences to dictate her attitude towards life. She not only appreciates life as a gift, but expresses gratitude to her mother for her positive outlook on life, and to the existence with which her Heavenly Father has blessed her. No matter what, Cheng views her life as an opportunity to make the most of, and views her differences as giving her a unique outlook on life.

"Waking Spirit is a collection of poetry of different types including haiku, quotations and essays that embody Cheng's positive attitude towards life and strategies for dealing with adversity. Her writing is very accessible and enjoyable as she "shows without telling," without arrogance or preachiness.

"This book is an expression of joy, of wonder, and of passion for life. It teaches simple truths and lifelong lessons that are often overlooked in the current complex world," wrote ForeWord Magazine CLARION Reviews

"Shirley Cheng creates beautiful worlds of inspiration by focusing on a positive outlook. Her wisdom and captivating writing style reveals a rare beauty of the heart. Humorous haiku blends effortlessly with devotional selections as quotes sing a wisdom we want to hear and live.

"For seventeen years, Shirley Cheng experienced the world with her full vision, but now as she has lost her eyesight, her inner vision awakens on the page like a field of wildflowers in full bloom. This book takes you on journeys of spirit, where you feel nurtured and loved in this world of magical joy. Her visions of delicate wonder are a warm soothing revelation...

"As a fan of all of Shirley Cheng's books, I think this is my favorite book! I love all of her writing, but this one is especially enjoyable because I love her clever haiku that sometimes made me laugh with surprise.

"I can highly recommend Waking Spirit as well as Dance with Your Heart: Tales and Poems That the Heart Tells. The positive energy in Shirley Cheng's books is refreshing, real and inspiring. I hope you will invite her writing into your heart to experience the beauty of love's transforming energy," wrote The Rebecca Review, Amazon.com's Top Ten Reviewer

"Constantly our Great Creator blesses us with a gift to remind us why life is so special and worth hanging around for. Hellen Keller was one of those gifts, and now the world is lucky enough to have blind and disabled Shirley Cheng take up Helens gauntlet, and remind us of how special life can be and what a courageous survivor is all about. Shirley Chengs new book Waking Spirit is a masterpiece and you would be making a wise decision to take time to read its poignant contents. Shirley proves the motto of the world Positive Thinkers club holds water through the centuries of time. 'The Positive Thinker sees the invisible, feels the intangible and achieves the impossible.' That is what Shirley is all about!" said Ken Bossone, President of World Positive Thinkers Club.

Reading just one article a day guarantees 101 fantastic days!" remarked Shawn Driscoll, Career Success Coach/Succeed Coaching & Development

"I'm inspired! The wealth of knowledge contained in this book confirms that everyone is an inherent teacher, whose unique experiences and wisdom needs to be shared for the greater good of everyone! I hope many more volumes are on the horizon!" wrote Jo-Anne Cutler, owner of JC Connections and author of "Breaking the Cycle" programs

"I always find it helpful to take the time to read stories that inspire me when I feel myself out of balance. When the energy is not flowing in my life, an exercise can change my perception or release an unhealthy emotion like anger, fear or self-doubt. Moving through a process of taking responsibility can move me into truth, giving me freedom. 101 Great Ways to Improve Your Life: Volume 2 can be the emotional support I need every day of my life. I celebrate with and respect each author who has shared their gifts in this book." commented Colleen Hoffman Smith, Facilitator and Developer of The Inner Workout™

"As somebody who helps hundreds of individuals improve their lives from the ground up, what I like best about 101 Great Ways to Improve Your Life, Vol. II is the gamut of tips, strategies and wisdom contained in one book! 101 Great Ways to Improve Your Life: Volume 2 is a great RESOURCE to have around when you're trying to figure out how to navigate your way through life's obstacles and opportunities," said Cari Vollmer, founder of LifeOnTrack.com. "This book is a great addition to my personal growth library and one I recommend it to all of my online subscribers."
